Learn to make your very own natural haircare products in an educational, evening workshop with clean beauty cosmetic formulator Marla Bosworth. Marla has been making plant-based haircare products for 22 years and will share formulation recipes and tips for making natural haircare products suitable for your hair type. This class is for beginner through advanced. There is no prerequisite for joining the class.

Save yourself time and money by skipping formulator fees in addition to costly mistakes formulating these products. Marla brings these tried and true salon-qualty formulas to you in simple explanation and she discusses in detail formulation guidelines. These formulas have been tested and approved by salon professionals, former students and Marla's own customers. You may sell these formulas in your line, reformulate and tweak it, or produce the products simply for personal use or for gift-giving.

In this hands-on class we will discuss theory and shampoo and conditioner formulation for various hair types. We'll discuss the difference between Asian, African American, Hispanic and Caucasian hair. Next, we’ll discuss the theory of making shampoos and conditioners. Then we’ll formulate hair products:

Organic Balance Shampoo ~ This natural herbal shampoo is very gentle and can even be used as a baby shampoo. No harsh surfactants here! It gently cleans the hair without stripping it. It is intended for all hair types, and gets rave reviews especially for black hair. We will discuss how the simple formula tweak for various hair types, although feedback for those hair types has been excellent as well.

Organic Balance Conditioner ~ The conditioner is fantastic for all hair types. We will discuss how to tweak each formula to your hair type. Black hair may want the addition of more butters and oils, but feedback has been excellent for this product too.

This class covers:

  • Properties of plant oils and butters and how they clean and moisturize the hair.
  • Why we need surfactants and which ones are the most natural.
  • Why cold process bar soaps are not appropriate for hair, especially long-term.
